This Murphy bed Hardware kit will fit a Queen size mattress sized 80 inches long by 60 inches wide or smaller, weighing between 50 to 80 lbs. Your mattress should be less than 12 inches thick in order to be able to use the optional leg crossbar. This is a vertical wall-mounted hardware kit, meaning the bed cabinet mounts to the wall at the top. The bed cabinet sit’s upright that is vertical.
Hardware parts come with a full lifetime warranty, meaning we will replace any defective hardware parts for free of charge as long as you own your DIY Murphy Bed.

Very clear and easy to follow instructions. Only one suggestion for future versions of your product. I found that the installation of the pistons was not possible without partial removal of the cabinet top as the stop does not allow clearance to tip the bed into the cabinet to allow the pistons to be attached.
Overall though, I’m very satisfied with the outcome. Trim and finish yet to be finalized.

I used the plans for MDF. All went together good but make sure you give yourself a full 2 days to cut all the wood, put it together, and install on the wall. I still have not painted it but the bed works well and is solid. I believe to adults can easily sleep on the design and it will hold up

The shipping was super fast, and the instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. I’m a Phys. Ed. Teacher, not a carpenter and I was able to build this bed and assemble it, over a weekend.
Before buying I asked Nadia a ton of questions, and she answered every one the same day. Excellent customer service! My only issue is I wanted a king sized Murphy, but queen was the biggest hardware kit they sell. So with many discussions with Nadia, I bought the queen kit, added 16 inches to all of the horizontal measurements, used 1/2″ plywood instead of 3/4″ for the face panels to cut down on weight, and voila! A king sized Murphy bed. The queen hardware works great. It’s plenty strong to raise and lower the bed.
Ever since covid, my wife has been working-out in our bedroom and pushing the bed against the wall to get a little more space. Now, she can just flip it up and she gets a ton of floor space. The bed cabinet only sticks out 16 inches from the wall. Its a win win! My wife gets all the space she needs for her home gym, and we get to keep our king size bed! The best part? The kit with shipping, all of the building materials, glue, screws, edge tape, stain and varnish only cost me $1087.00! The cheapest Murphy bed I could find on line in a pre built kit was $1800.00 plus taxes and shipping. It was only built with MDF not Plywood, and the reviews were terrible, so this kit was a no-brainer!
I’m seriously thinking of building a couple more of these for our cottage bedrooms now!

I did the entire build with plywood (no MDF) instructions are very good. I was using an existing pillow top mattress that is about 16 inches thick so I had to make the cabinet 20 inches deep.

So so thrilled with this kit. I am a DIY novice: go slow, read all the instructions, measure carefully, and you’ve got this. It’s easily a three day weekend type of project. I feel so accomplished and I loved being able to customize it for my style. I added some faux drawers and caned webbing faux doors.
My one warning though: getting all the wood cut at Home Depot took forever and their saws aren’t really equipped for small detailed cuts. We ended up having to redo a few cuts with a circular saw when we got home which is challenging. I’d recommend having/borrowing a table saw for this, or pay someone to do all the initial cuts for you.

This is my second Easy DIY Murphy Bed, and I have some suggestions to help save potential builders some money.
I recommend using furniture grade plywood and not ‘shop’ grade. Furniture grade plywood has an extra 1/2″ on side and end, which, with careful measurements, can save you one full sheet of plywood. I finished my bed using three sheets with very little scrap. I used a biscuit joiner to join two lengths of ‘scrap’ to make pieces ‘B’ and ‘G’
Part ‘B’ (bed frame header) is not visible behind the mattress so the joint, while tight and smooth, is not visible when the bed is in use. Part ‘G’ (Cabinet Top Bottom) is the only place the joint can be seen, and only when the bed is open. Make well-fitting, tight joints, and no one will ever know you saved the price of a fourth sheet of plywood. I did use spruce stripping for parts AA, AB, and K as these are hidden in the construction. I fortified ‘K’ (Kick Panel Rail) by using two lengths of 1 X 6 spruce,….one at the front of the cabinet to attach ‘J’ (kick panel front) to, and one at the back of the cabinet for added strength.
All measurements provided are well thought out and accurate.
Following instructions in the Cutting and Construction Guide provided at purchase, I had all my wood cut and pre-drilled (Forstner drilling points) before the kit arrived. All the hardware fit in place and assembly was easy.

I wasn’t sure that I would be able to pull this project off, but thanks to Easy DIY Murphy Bed, I did! I’m so proud of myself, I can hardly stand it! I recommend taking a test run of getting the bed frame into the room before gluing the panels on. The panels make it very heavy and difficult to maneuver. It was a tight fit for us going down the stairs. Also, you don’t need nearly as many screws as the instructions say. Boxes of 125 (not 200) were plenty. A smaller bottle of glue would also suffice. It was unclear when the bed should be painted. I painted mine after the pieces were assembled, but before they were installed (hardware should be removed). This worked very well and looks amazing.

Excellent product, the instructions were very detailed, some of the best I’ve ever worked with! We used this to free up floor space in our guest room. The hardware was easy to install at all levels, just pay attention to the details. The cutting list is very thorough, if you get your boards cut at a Big Box Store just stand there with them and make sure they get the dimensions right. Don’t give them a chance to screw up. Use the plywood, don’t go for particle board. I did not end up with enough clearance for the optional kick plate to work but everything else runs smooth. Even with wood prices as high as they are, you will still save $2k+ with this DIY kit. Our final cost was ~$800 with using furniture grade oak plywood, including the hardware kit cost. Great product, highly recommend just be sure you are not a beginner and make sure you have the tools you need. One of the best DIY projects I’ve done!

Put it together today. It took the better part of a day to get everything cut out and sanded then the rest of the evening to assemble and install. The process was simple and everything functions correctly. It’s a lil light even when the mattress is on it. It wants to lift up on its own. I would use 3/4 plywood for the mattress supports instead of 1/4″ to assist the weight. Overall a great purchase. Definitely a 2 person job for the final install.

First, let me say that the kit is very well made and the instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. I am very pleased with the kit and the finished product. Here is my warning. I would NOT recommend this project for a beginner or someone who cannot make exact cuts. The instructions suggest that you use a table saw or a circular saw guide. I will go on to say that this should not be a suggestion but a requirement. Your cuts MUST be exact! Of course, 4×8 sheets are difficult to use on a table saw without a really good helper and lots of room, so I highly recommend getting a saw guide that will allow you to make 8′ cuts.

Awesome Kit
This kit had everything we needed to make a queen size Murphy bed. The instructions were very easy to follow and the videos were helpful as well. I would suggest painting or staining the pieces first before assembling and just touch up any scratches that might happen during assembly. We had considered the cheaper DIY route of hinges or other methods seen on the internet, but are glad we went with the proper hardware because it is a heavy piece of furniture and would be difficult to use.

This was a very easy to build kit and was done in just about 12 hours over two days by one person. The only issue I had with the instructions was I used the board layout as my guide for cutting everything on day one, and did not realize there are two boards that they forgot to put on the layout (they are listed on the cut-pieces part last). Luckily I stored all the scrap inside so on day two i just had to cut the remaining pieces from my leftover drops.
I mis-drilled two holes (dropped through for barrel/cap screws what should have been coarse screw holes), and ended up going to the store to get additional cap screws to eliminate the coarse screw positions there.
The recommendations for 200ea of the 1.25” and 2.0” screws was wildly excessive. I didn’t count, but I’d wager I used a quarter of that, and I overdo everything.
The choice of 1/4″ ply for the mattress underlayment I’m not real happy with, as it’s creaky/flimsy. It’s not a real big deal once the mattress is on, but it’s annoying knowing it’s like that. This probably would be less of an issue on a full/twin, but on a queen where there are two sheets there it just lacks any rigidity to keep it quiet. I may double it up later or remove it in exchange for slats if it continues to bother me.
I ended up using a ~15-20lb fifth wheel brace I had lying around installed at the foot of the mattress frame as counterbalance since it would just barely stay down with the mattress on it (think buoyancy). Adding that made it pretty solid with the mattress on and just under neutrally buoyant with the mattress off.
I finished the outer panel with some 1/4″ oak hobby boards to make a shaker look.
Overall I’m very happy with the kit

This kit had everything I needed, but the two types of near identical black fasteners really threw me for a loop. I drilled eight 1/4″ holes in each cabinet side, anticipating eight of the allen-key-machine-screw combos. Upon reading the construction directions more closely, I could just barely see that there were four wood screws and four holes to be drilled on each cabinet side. The wood screws wouldn’t work since I had just drilled holes where they would need to be. I live on an island in Alaska so I wasn’t about to wait another three weeks of shipping for a handful of furniture screws, so I improvised. My hardware is a little asymmetrical now, but that’s Ok because the rest of the bed looks and works great!

I wouldn’t call this easy. I wouldn’t suggest the MDF. I do a lot of home improvement and a little woodworking. I have actually previously made a murphy bed from scratch from pine, no plans and no hardware (had to find the pivot points myself and pins that would hold). That was very hard. This was easier than that, but by no means would I consider this an easy project. Between cutting, sanding, priming, painting, assembling and finish work this took two of us about 4 weekends. Once assembled I was disappointed that we made any of it out of MDF. We have made cabinets from MDF before and know it’s limitations, but thought this company took that into consideration since they don’t let you make the whole thing from MDF. But, the parts that are MDF are flimsy and the screws don’t hold well and it squeaks at joints. We ended up replacing the back “headboard” with plywood for support and screwing that to the wall (which I don’t love because of the obvious screw heads). I think the kit is nice, the directions are pretty decent. I don’t love all the “tip” sections and wish everything were just laid out as paragraph on each page Rather than text dotting around the page here and there. I think they should reconsider giving the option of any part made from MDF. I’m very disappointed that we didn’t make it from all veneered plywood. The bottom pannel rubs on the bed when opening and closing (which they give you other options for so we have to rectify that at some point) but it works for now.

I have to admit I cheated and had the contractor who is making a downstairs primary suite put this in. But his review is awesome. He said it was easy. It took him 4 hours and he was so impressed at the tiny bit of leftover wood. We combined to big rooms for the suite and enlarged the bathroom. That left a small study. Hardware kit quality is great and the build instructions were pretty good. In my particular case I was very tight on ceiling height that prevented me from constructing as per instructions… instead I had to build cabinet in upright position. In addition to this challenge, I also opted to add additional trim to elevate final look of build. Where I’m taking a star away is because the instructions I don’t think where explicit enough as to indicate what I should be concerned about given my build constraints. In the end I could not get the gas struts on (at least not without compressing using 2 tie down straps) for two reasons. 1) because of the added trim which was 1/2″ and my side rails were also an extra 1/2″ in height (my cabinet is extra deep) I adjusted the location of the pivot bracket by 1/2″ as instructed in guide (X length) but questioned whether the upper bracket for the other end of the strut should have been adjusted as well…as in end I was out about 1/2″ which I think was the added height of the side rails. 2) because I had to build cabinet in upright position due to low ceilings I could not fasten to wall by driving screws above cabinet top panel but instead did on the bottom side of the top panel where they are accessible and visible and then added front cross trim. The issue with this is that with the front cross trim piece in place it prevents the bed platform from being recessed into the bed cabinet temporarily during strut install. My recommendations: make the top front trim and stop piece removable by fastening with screws instead of glue/ nails as this would allow easier install or removal of struts; and consider adjusting placement of upper strut bracket if bed rail height is modified. My bed rails were 1/2″ more in height as I also went with a much deeper cabinet to allow for a bit thicker mattress and more clearance… this 1/2″ is about what I was out for the struts to be an easy install. The other thing I’d consider altering is the design and construction of the cabinet top piece and back braces with the goal of improving strength given the directional forces placed on it as that is what holds to wall while the bed is down and struts are trying to pull off from wall. I might add some additional anchoring to cabinet sides as this will be concealed by shelving units that will go on either side of unit for good measure. Overall happy with the build and the customer service was great, recomend for sure.

hi Jeff thank you for the review. the front trim piece known as the cabinet top stopper, is removable in our instructions. It must be so the gas pistons can be installed property during the assembly process. However over the years we have had a number is customers that fail to follow this step as outlines in the guides and end up having the same issues you had. We highly recommend you read through guide books before starting to plan and build your Murphy bed.

My second bed and it went well. The key is to make sure all the wood cuts are to exact measurements. As well, reading the manuals intensely before starting any assembly; there are some nuance (like offsetting the pivot point to take into account IF you want to add any face trim so that it ends up flush). If you are going to paint it, use Sande plywood vs more expensive Oak or Birch.

The bed is still being put together. So far the hardware is installing as advertised. The only problem that I have had is that I am adding a molding to the front of the bed, which changes some dimensions (as noted in the instructions). Very satisfied. The $219 tag for the parts is reasonable, but when you factor in the engineering and the instruction manuals, it a real bargain. I cut my parts very carefully per their spec and it fit together perfectly. I made a few changes …
1. My mattress was lighter than they suggested, so I used 1/2″ plywood instead of 1/4″ to add 20 lbs. and the balance came out spot on.
2. Since I live on an island, I had to order my plywood sight unseen and it came badly warped. I should have ordered a cored plywood that wouldn’t warp. That said, the bed frame and a few extra screws allowed me to draw the plywood flat.
3. The back cross bracing for the cabinet is not really optional. It prevents racking, draws the sides into line and squares the entire cabinet.
4. I built the bed “L” frames 1/2″ long so that after the glue up, I could trim them square and match them all to length.
5. The instruction guides were clear, precise and well presented with photos and drawings.
6. I made the rails of 3/4 maple with rounded fronts and face framed all the plywood with 3/4″ maple to hide the raw plywood edges, packet screwing them on or biscuiting them together where appropriate. I’m just not a fan of veneer.
7. We primed and painted the entire work the same color as the wall so that it very nearly disappears.
All in all, this was a very satisfying project to complete and for once, I didn’t have do the engineering!

There were 2-3 places in the instructions that were left vague.
Not a major issue but very frustrating.
The 1×2 boards in the material list were listed as 2-96 inch and 13- 72 inch.
After gluing and assembly I realized they were way too big.
I looked in several places for the exact measurements to no avail.
I finally figured out that since they went under the 1/4 inch ply that was the measurement.
The front kick board needs to be an exact measurement to prevent rubbing when opening.
Fortunately I was able to get it off after attaching to the wall and adjust to fit.
I also had a strut to fall off after complete assembly and I am still trying to figure out how to reattach it without removing from the wall and taking the top plate off.
The clip on the strut had been damaged to where it did not catch on the ball.
This may sound very critical but it’s only to provide information. The kit can be perfect with a little more detail.
